Description

Are your clients tired all the time and yet can't sleep? Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is the first line, exceptionally effective treatment for insomnia. This introductory webinar covers how to recognize and diagnose insomnia, implement CBT‑I, and incorporate useful Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles. Common pitfalls for CBT-I treatment and how to respond will also be explored. Upon completion, participants will be equipped to help clients experiencing sleep difficulties, determine when and how to refer to a behavioral sleep specialist, and identify pathways for obtaining CBT‑I provider certification.

Learning objectives

  • Discuss diagnostic criteria for insomnia and how to discern between similar but different presentations of sleep and general health problems.
  • Name the five steps of standard CBT-I and how to use them with clients.
  • Identify common pitfalls in CBT-I and when using ACT techniques can be more advantageous.
