Description

“Clearing the Fog” is a 2-hour interactive webinar for mental health professionals that explores the clinical applications of emerging menopause research. Drawing on longitudinal findings, including insights from large cohort studies, the webinar examines how hormonal changes intersect with mood, cognition and identity. The possible roles of both psychotropic medications and hormone replacement therapies will be delineated. Attendees will explore the menopause transition as both a medical condition and a developmental stage, with attention paid to differential diagnosis and intervention approaches to support psychological identity reorganization. Case-based discussion and applied Q&A will support translation into clinical practice.

Learning objectives

  • Differentiate menopausal transition–related neuroendocrine and developmental symptoms from primary psychiatric disorders in clinical assessment and case formulation.
  • Evaluate the role and limitations of psychotropic medications and hormone replacement therapies during the menopause transition.
  • Apply a developmental framework to menopausal identity shifts in order to support psychological identity reorganization, increase patient agency, and improve interdisciplinary collaboration.
