Description

What potential value do interviews have when integrated into experimental designs? Using tips from her recently published book How to Mix Methods: A Guide to Sequential, Convergent and Experimental Research Designs (APA, 2024), Katz-Buonincontro provides flexible options for purposefully using interviews with experiments. Individual, dyadic and small groups interviews are considered, with examples from published literature across a variety of fields. Sampling integration and analytic integration is discussed to help plan for and uphold rigor according to the APA mixed methods research design journal article reporting standards.

Learning objectives

  • Discuss experimental mixed methods designs.
  • Explore the potential of interviews for your own experimental research project.
  • Differentiate between the affordances of individual, dyadic, or small group interviews.
