Description
This presentation examines the evolving licensure landscape for prescribing psychologists, highlighting regulatory trends, access to care challenges, and public safety considerations. Attendees will explore key factors shaping licensure, including data on master of science in clinical psychopharmacology (MSCP) graduates, Psychopharmacology Exam for Psychologists (PEP) pass rates, state-by-state prescribing psychologist (RxP) licensure requirements and number of licensed prescribers, and disciplinary actions. The webinar invites critical analysis of the relationship between regulatory oversight and the availability of licensed prescribing psychologists, addressing the central question: How can regulation balance public safety with expanded patient access to care?
Learning objectives
- Identify licensure trends and obstacles to licensing in prescribing psychology, informed by data on MSCP graduates, PEP passage, RxP licensure, and disciplinary actions in the field.
- Assess the balance of enhanced safety versus limited access to care as related to stringent regulation of RxP.
- Discuss actionable strategies to navigate and address regulatory burdens via advocacy for equitable licensure practices.
