Description

Despite therapists’ training and experience as professional change agents in support of others, they give relatively little attention to the emotional hazards associated with their work. This webinar training will address the impact of vicarious traumatization on therapists. That is, the psychological hazard of caring for traumatized persons and families over the course of therapists’ careers. A trauma-informed approach to clinical practice will be emphasized as a protective factor for therapists, and as a facilitative factor for treatment efficacy for clients. It will provide therapists tools and examples of ways to mitigate and transform the effects of the VT process.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the effects of a vicarious traumatization dynamic in therapists.
  • Identify some ways to address and help transform vicarious traumatization.
