Description
There is evidence that therapists do not improve with experience, and client outcomes may actually worsen for some (e.g., Goldberg et al., 2016). This presentation will discuss how the use of routine outcome monitoring (ROM) can address this and help keep therapists attuned with their clients and clinical work. First, a rationale for ROM will be provided, including a synopsis of the research literature. Second, the mechanics of using a ROM system will be provided. Third, the tenets of deliberate practice will be used as a framework for using ROM data to promote skill development.
Learning objectives
- Explain the basics of ROM and the rationale for its use with clients.
- Apply the to use ROM within a deliberate practice framework to promote skill development.
