Description

This introductory webinar will provide a practical grounding in quality improvement (QI) methods, from development of a QI charter with SMART performance goals articulated, through handoff to a process owner for sustainability monitoring. Conceptual, practical, and regulatory considerations will be discussed. The presenter’s experience in implementing the Comfort Promise, an evidence-based bundled approach to minimizing pain with needle procedures, will be used to illustrate key concepts. Attendees with interest in developing their own QI skillset to help bridge the gap between research and clinical practice will benefit from this webinar.

This program is part of the Professional Development Training Institute on Child and Adolescent Development.

Learning objectives

  • Describe how the Model for Improvement provides a framework for developing, testing, and implementing changes leading to health care improvement.
  • Identify the relevant components of a QI charter (i.e., QI-consistent SMART goal, primary outcomes, balancing measures, project stakeholders, etc.).
  • Summarize key considerations in selecting, collecting, displaying, and interpreting QI data.
