Description
Cognitive assessment is a cornerstone of psychological science. A critical point of intersection is the role of demographic adjustments with science, practice, and ethics. Many psychologists feel ill-equipped to navigate and manage demographic adjustments and the underlying rationale in their clinical and scientific settings. The lack of clear guidance and competency with these skills places psychologists at risk for ethical violations and has resulted in discomfort/avoidance for too many psychologists. This webinar will summarize the relevant science, ethical guidelines, and practice recommendations that inform decisions in clinical and research settings.
Learning objectives
- Discuss how demographic adjustments affect sensitivity and specificity in neuropsychological diagnostics.
- Discuss how demographic variables may serve as proxies to underlying socioethnic influences.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the link among issues of racism/diversity, demographic adjustments and ethical decision-making.
