Description
Many children and adolescents experience challenges navigating their emotions. This is no surprise as emotion regulation is complex. There is no one strategy that is helpful to every person or in every situation. Current emotion regulation research focuses on when and for whom a strategy is helpful. This webinar examines eight emotion regulation strategies: (1) acceptance, (2) avoidance/escape, (3) distraction, (4) emotional support-seeking, (5) problem-solving, (6) reframing/reappraisal, (7) rumination/repetitive thinking, and (8) somatic relaxation. The presentation will provide psychologists with evidence-based information on the strengths and limitations of each strategy and evidence-informed recommendations on how to optimize use of each strategy with children and adolescents.
This program is part of the Professional Development Training Institute on Child and Adolescent Development.
