Fund your research with an APF grant

The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications for graduate student research grants:

  • The Randy Gerson Memorial Grant, which provides $6,000 for research on family dynamics or multigenerational processes, particularly projects that continue the development of Bowen family systems. Applications are due Feb. 1.

  • The Wayne F. Placek Grants, which encourage research to increase the general public's understanding of homosexuality and to alleviate the stress that gay men and lesbians experience as a result of their sexual orientation. Two $15,000 grants are awarded annually. Applications are due March 2.

  • The Henry David Grants. Two grants are given each year. One provides up to $1,500 for research on human reproductive behavior or population studies; the other provides up to $1,500 for travel for a researcher making a presentation about human reproductive behavior or population studies at a conference or congress. Applications are due Feb. 15.

Nominate an outstanding local association

State, provincial and territorial psychological associations that have demonstrated excellence in promoting graduate student development and joint APAGS/State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Associations membership are eligible for the Outstanding State, Provincial or Territorial Psychological Association of the Year Award, which offers a $1,500 prize. The deadline is Jan. 16.


Attention student leaders: Run for an APAGS position

The annual election for positions on the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students Committee begins in March. Positions include: chair-elect; member-at-large, education focus; and member-at-large, communications focus. More information is available from APAGS.


Apply for 2009 APAGS scholarships and awards

APAGS is now accepting applications for its 2009 scholarships, grants and awards. The Carol Williams-Nickelson Award for Women's Leadership and Scholarship in Women's Issues is a new scholarship offered this year. Applications and nominations must be received by May 16.
