Topic 1: Updated resolution on promoting global perspectives in US psychology

CGP updated the 2017 Resolution on Promoting Global Perspectives in US Psychology, updating content, reorganizing structurally (regrouping items in more meaningful domains), and adding new references. Members of the committee sent the report out for public comment, then responded to 75 suggestions from four APA committees, one division, three offices, and three individual members. They submitted the edited resolution to the governance office to be included on the February 2025 Council of Representatives agenda.

Topic 2: Contributed to documents coming out of consolidated meetings

CGP participated in cross-cutting groups at the spring consolidated meetings also comprising members of the Board for the Advancement of Psychology in the Public Interest and its reporting committees. CGP members contributed to the following documents:

  • Policy Statement on Reconciling Traditional Wisdom and Psychological Science
  • Policy Statement on the Benefits of Inclusivity to Psychology and Higher Education
  • Foundational Document on The Impact of Employment Instability on Well-being
  • Foundational Document on the Importance of Publicly Supported Services for Vulnerable Populations
  • Foundational Document on Human Rights, Fairness and Dignity in Workplaces
  • Foundational Document on Realizing Meritocracy

Topic 3: Provided oversight to UN Representatives

CGP provides oversight for APA’s volunteer NGO representatives at the United Nations in New York and Geneva. The 2025 liaison from CGP to the UN team was John Francis Leader, who attended virtual monthly meetings and in-person events at the General Assembly in New York in September. The UN teams engaged in many activities over the course of 2025, most notably successfully advocating for adoption of the seminal political declaration of the fourth high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and the promotion of mental health and well-being (PDF, 151KB)opens in new window.
