American Psychological Association. (2013, December 1). APA teams with Microsoft to bring mental health into the classroom. Monitor on Psychology, 44(11). https://www.apa.org/monitor/2013/12/apa-microsoft

In response to the June White House National Conference on Mental Healthopens in new window, APA is working with Microsoft to create a series of lessons that will bring psychologists into elementary and secondary school classrooms in every state via the Skype platform.

Launching in January, the program will allow students to interact with psychologists to learn about mental health issues and overcome any stigma they may associate with seeking mental health care.

Nearly 70,000 teachers worldwide use Skype in the classroom to introduce their students to experts; with the addition of psychologists, hourlong Q&A presentations on anxiety, depression, anger and resilience will now be available. Classroom sessions will be held throughout 2014.

APA members interested in volunteering for the Skype program should email the APA Office of Public and Member Communications.
