U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) was awarded the APA Outstanding Leadership Award for championing mental health and psychology issues, including sponsorship of the Medicare Mental Health Access Act, which would allow psychologists to practice in a broader range of Medicare treatment settings.- Peter L. Sheras, PhD, of the Virginia Psychological Association was awarded the APA Committee of State Leaders State Leadership Award for promoting psychological issues at the local, state, regional and national levels.
- State Sen. Julie Rosen (R-Minn.) was awarded the APAPO State Legislator of the Year Award for her work to pass legislation that provided coverage for psychologists' consultation to primary-care providers — a pivotal step in enhancing the integration of primary care and psychological services in the state.
- Judy Devito, executive director of the Maryland Psychological Association, won the Outstanding Staff Person from APA's Div. 31 (State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs) for her leadership and service as a role model and mentor to other state association executive directors and leaders.
The California Psychological Association won the APA Div. 31 Outstanding State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Award for its advocacy programs, commitment to social justice issues such as immigration, and the revitalization of its prescriptive authority program.- The Arkansas Psychological Association was awarded the APA Div. 31 Diversity Award for its training, continuing education and mentoring programs that highlight diversity, and for increasing its leadership from diverse backgrounds.
- The New York Psychological Association won the APA Div. 31 Early Career Psychologists Award for its diversity division, which focuses on the concerns of members at the beginning stages of their careers and has developed innovative programs focusing on health-care reform.
- The New Jersey Psychological Association was awarded the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students Award for its outstanding efforts to promote graduate student involvement in the association.
