Rep. Tim Murphy, PhD (R-Pa.), one of three psychologists in Congress, spoke at APA's 2014 Annual Convention about the social and financial barriers to mental health care treatment and access in the United States.
Murphy has introduced legislation, the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act (H.R. 3717), to address those barriers to care. The bill seeks to improve mental health care by focusing programs and resources on psychiatric care for patients and families most in need of services.
