APA honored four individuals with Cynthia D. Belar Education Advocacy Distinguished Service Awards at its 2014 Education Leadership Conference:

  • Joseph Evans, PhD, a professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, received an award for his grassroots advocacy to increase education and training opportunities for psychology students in settings that integrate psychology and pediatric primary care.
  • Kelly Brown, a professional staffer for the Senate Committee on Appropriations' Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, and Allison Deters, a professional staffer for the House Committee on Appropriations' Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, received "friends of psychology" awards for their efforts to focus attention on the mental and behavioral health workforce.

APA President Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, presented a presidential citation to R. Eric Landrum, PhD, a psychology professor at Boise State University, in honor of his "remarkable contributions" to undergraduate education in psychology.

She gave another citation to William Cross Jr., PhD, a clinical professor of higher education and counseling psychology at the University of Delaware, for what she called his "more than four decades of stellar contributions to the understanding of social identities in African Americans and other cultural groups."
