APA's new publisher will be Jasper Simons, a publishing industry executive who joined APA earlier this year to oversee the business, editorial and operational aspects of APA's PsycINFO and other specialty databases.
"It's an honor to take over the publishing program of APA, one of the world's leading scholarly associations," says Simons.
Before joining APA, Simons was vice president of product and market strategy at Thomson Reuters, managing products and services aimed at associations and publishers. Before that, he led product development for SAGE Publications's professional division. Earlier in his publishing career, Simons served as vice president and publisher of the Cancer Information Group's clinical oncology journals, head of the American Anthropological Association's journals division and business manager of Elsevier's ScienceDirect sales division.
A native of the Netherlands, Simons has a master's degree in international relations.
"Gary VandenBos is a tough act to follow, but we are extremely fortunate to have someone with Jasper's strong publishing industry experience in areas relevant to APA," says Norman B. Anderson, PhD, APA's chief executive officer. "He combines deep product development experience with a collaborative approach to innovation and a thorough understanding of the publishing needs of researchers, educators and clinicians."
