Jessica Henderson Daniel, PhD Q1: How will you assure APA constituents, the general public and the international community that APA is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards?

My focus on leadership and collaborations includes strong adherence to the APA ethical standards. Consistent behaviors that reflect this position will present APA as an ethical and effective organization.

Individuals active in APA and state, provincial and territorial governance, as well as those who aspire to participate in collaborative efforts with other organizations (including international organizations), will need an updated perspective on our ethical aspirations as well as the code of conduct. We must prepare all those in governance to recognize and effectively respond to potential ethical dilemmas in an inclusive and timely manner as new challenges evolve.

Q2: How would you promote communication and outreach to communities of color in response to domestic and international human rights and social justice issues?

Leadership and organizational collaboration will prove critical when addressing domestic and international human rights issues, as well as social justice issues in communities of color.

First, I would consult with the Council of National Psychological Associations for the Advancement of Ethnic Minority Interests and the Alliance, two working groups with members from APA, and the four national racial/ethnic psychological associations: ABPsi, NLPA, AAPA and SIP. Second, I would consult with the APA social justice divisions.

In the subsequent meetings, I would seek common areas of concern and help negotiate priorities that will include the interested parties.
