You can get the basics in a weekend workshop—but as with any psychotherapeutic tool, mastering hypnosis takes practice.
APA’s Division 30, the Society of Psychological Hypnosis, is working to advance hypnosis training in a variety of ways. Division members are collaborating with the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis to create revised and updated standards for hypnosis training. The group is also developing a database of clinicians who provide training supervision in hypnosis for psychology students completing clinical internships. Eventually, they plan to expand the database to include supervisors who offer training to postdoctoral trainees and licensed clinicians as well. “If you’re interested in supervising trainees or are already doing so, please reach out so we can include you in the database,” said Division 30 President-Elect Afik Faerman, PhD.
