APA Presidential Citation: Honoring Heart Mountain

The Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation has received an APA Presidential Citation for its work to promote improved mental health and to understand the effects of long-term mental health trauma. Heart Mountain preserves the site in Wyoming where the U.S. government, fueled by panic and racism during World War II, unjustly incarcerated some 14,000 Japanese Americans from 1942 through 1945. The foundation’s new Mineta-Simpson Institute hosts workshops for educators and conducts multigenerational discussion groups and healing circles during annual pilgrimages to Heart Mountain and at other forums throughout the year.
