Donald W. Fiske, PhD, formerly of the University of Chicago, died in April. Fiske was best known for his research in measurement and methodology, and he sought to make psychology a rigorous scientific discipline. In 1959, Fiske co-authored an article on interpreting psychological measurements with Donald Campbell, PhD, which became the most-cited article in the history of the journal Psychological Bulletin.

After receiving a master's degree in psychology from Harvard University, Fiske taught there and at Wellesley University until 1942, when he joined the aviation psychology section of the U.S. Navy, becoming head of the section in 1946. He received a PhD in 1948 from the University of Michigan, and was subsequently hired by the psychology department at the University of Chicago. In 1999, the department established the annual Donald W. Fiske Distinguished Lecture series.
