WASHINGTON  — The American Psychological Association is pleased to announce the creation of the APA Librarian Conference Travel Awards. The awards are intended to support the professional development of early- and mid-career librarians by providing a grant to defray the cost of participation in a professional meeting. Applicants must have less than 15 years of experience in a library after receiving their MLS, and must be located in the United States.

“The APA Librarian Conference Travel Awards not only support the professional development of early-career librarians, but recognize the significant contributions librarians make in supporting the APA mission to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people’s lives,” said Jasper Simons, APA publisher designate.

Selection criteria for the awards include financial need and the relevance of the conference to the applicant’s professional development. Preference will be given to applicants whose regular job duties include working closely with students, faculty, researchers or clinicians in the behavioral sciences. APA is not limiting the conferences that are eligible for award funding — applicants should identify the conference that best meets their professional needs.

For 2016, three cash awards of $750 each are available. Through Nov. 30, 2015, APA is accepting applications for conferences taking place from January through April 2016. Two additional application cycles for conferences taking place throughout the rest of the year will open on Jan. 1, 2016, and on May 1, 2016.
