WASHINGTON — The American Psychological Association has established an integrated, centralized business unit for all APA Style® products and services and named Emily L. Ayubi as its first business development director.

“APA Style was developed by social and behavioral scientists to standardize scientific writing. It is used across institutions of higher learning, in disciplines from psychology to nursing, from communications to business and from social work to criminology,” said Jasper Simons, APA’s executive publisher. “Emily and her team are building a suite of APA Style solutions that will advance the quality of scholarly work for students and researchers.”

For the past 12 years, Ayubi has worked in a variety of editorial and product development capacities with progressive leadership advancement at APA. She directs an elite product development team with expertise in APA Style, content development, website management, usability and user experience, social media and psychology.

Ayubi’s educational background in organizational management, her knowledge of psychology and her commitment to serve the needs of researchers, students and writers were instrumental in her promotion, Simons said. “Ayubi’s exceptional vision and drive have been evidenced most recently in her leadership of APA Style CENTRALopens in new window, a revolutionary Web-based application enriched with educational resources and a collaborative writing space designed to guide users through the learning, research, writing and publishing,” he added.

“APA Style has a rich legacy of being on the forefront of advancing research-reporting standards, bias-free language guidelines and editorial rules that promote clear and concise scholarly communication,” Ayubi said. “I am excited about expanding the brand into new markets while honoring the distinguished history of APA Style that dates back to the publication of the first set of style rules in 1929.”

Ayubi holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University and a master’s degree in organizational management from The George Washington University. She was born and raised in Latin America while her parents worked for the U.S. Foreign Service.

The American Psychological Association, in Washington, D.C., is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States. APA's membership includes more than 122,500 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students. Through its divisions in 54 subfields of psychology and affiliations with 60 state, territorial and Canadian provincial associations, APA works to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives.
