Washington — The American Psychological Association and IReL, a consortium of Irish higher education institutions, have reached a “read and publish” agreement that will combine reading access to APA journals with immediate open access publishing for IReL authors.
“We are excited to expand our collaboration with IReL to support open access publishing,” said APA Publisher for Journals and Books Rose Sokol, PhD. “Through this deal, we hope to offer publication and access models that are fully responsive to the needs of the Irish academic community.”
The two-year agreement went into effect this month.
“This agreement will offer Irish institutions continued access to APA’s journals while enabling financially sustainable open access publishing for our research community,” said IReL Director Jack Hyland. “For authors, this means a simplified and seamless process to comply with funder mandates and immediate open access to Irish research for the world.”
Established in 2004, IReL is an e-resource licensing consortium for Irish publicly funded higher education institutions and is hosted by Maynooth University. Since 2020, IReL has signed over 20 open access agreements with publishers, helping to make Ireland a leader in the transition to open access. In addition to its role in licensing, IReL manages the Irish orcid consortium. For more information, visit the IReL websiteopens in new window.
