Washington — The American Psychological Association has named Guillermo Corea as its first chief business innovation and growth officer, responsible for developing and leading new revenue generation strategies for the association and its affiliated APA Services Inc. Corea has more than 25 years of experience in business development, marketing, partnerships and strategic management.

“APA welcomes Guillermo to this critical new position, which will involve identifying and diversifying revenue for the association, alliance building and business development,” APA CEO Arthur C. Evans Jr., PhD, said in announcing the appointment. “He brings a stellar record that includes launching new operations and expanding revenue streams in his prior positions.”

Corea most recently served nine years with the Society for Human Resource Management, first as director of digital media and business development and later as managing director, workplace innovation lab and venture capital. During that time, he launched an impact investment vehicle, new business lines and products and expanded SHRM’s e-commerce revenue.

“I am excited to join APA as the association looks to move beyond its traditional revenue streams of publishing and member dues,” Corea said. “The rapid development of new technologies promises exciting new opportunities, as does the potential to expand APA’s strategic partnerships.”

The chief business innovation and growth officer reports to the CEO and will also work synergistically with the deputy CEO, chief financial officer and other executive leaders who oversee key units to achieve APA’s and APASI’s strategic and financial goals.

Before joining SHRM, Corea held management positions with a cross-section of companies, including Scripps Networks, Ciena and TMG Custom Media. His work also involved expansion into international markets.

Corea holds an MBA from Cornell University and a BA in economics from Lynchburg College.
