Tell us a bit about your background: What is your area of research? What is your most recent journal-editing experience?
I am a clinical psychologist with clinical, research, and administrative experience. My program of research encompasses both theoretical and applied studies in the area of eating psychopathology and obesity, often focusing on Latino populations.
In terms of journal editing experience, I served as an associate editor for Clinician's Research Digest (CRD) for six years, and consulting editor for another six years. In addition, I am associate editor for Eating Disorders: Journal of Treatment and Prevention, and for a new book series titled Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Clinical Practice Series, published by Oxford University Press. I also serve as consulting editor for Journal of Clinical Psychology.
Why is this journal important for the field? What is its relevance to society/public health? What are the hot issues in your area right now?
CRD's mission serves a critical role in the psychotherapy field by bringing easy to read, short summaries of the latest and most clinically useful empirical research from more than 100 journals to mental health professionals. CRD assists in minimizing the research-practice gap in our field and assists APA in disseminating the most recent empirical psychotherapy research to clinicians in a digestible format.
Do you have plans for a special issue or changes to the editorial process? Are you making any changes?
I will aim to increase the scientific breadth of the content covered.
For example, we will be creating special articles that cover important changes in the field such as when new mental health guidelines emerge. One such example is the ICD-11, which will be published in 2018 and will impact a large number of our readers.
Providing our readership with a concise summary of changes and online references to assist clinicians in the adaptation to code changes will help clinicians stay on top of changes in the field. This would also serve to increase the clinical utility of the newsletter.
Editor Spotlight features interviews with the newly-appointed editors of APA Journals.
APA Journals produces an array of scholarly journals that cover the spectrum of modern psychology and feature the latest research in the field.
Clinician's Research Digest® is a six-page newsletter that reviews more than 100 journals each month and summarizes the most relevant articles with an eye toward identifying the clinically-relevant bottom line.
