Special issue editors
The Journal of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Economics invites submissions for a special issue on the integrity and soundness of scientific research.
In recent years, researchers across many fields have become increasingly aware of the importance of rigorous, transparent, and reliable research practices. Concerns about reproducibility, publication bias, questionable research practices, statistical validity, preregistration, data sharing, and the interpretation of empirical findings are no longer confined to a single discipline. They are shared across neuroscience, psychology, economics, and related fields.
The aim of this special issue is to provide an interdisciplinary platform for discussing what concrete steps can be taken—and should be taken—to maintain and strengthen the integrity of scientific research. We welcome contributions that examine these issues from theoretical, methodological, empirical, institutional, or editorial perspectives. We are particularly interested in papers that go beyond general statements about the importance of research integrity and instead offer practical insights, concrete examples, or implementable proposals.
Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- reproducibility and replicability in neuroscience, psychology, economics, and related fields
- preregistration, registered reports, and transparent research workflows
- data, materials, and code sharing
- publication bias and selective reporting
- statistical inference, robustness checks, and analytical transparency
- researcher degrees of freedom and questionable research practices
- incentive structures in academic publishing and research evaluation
- the role of journals, editors, reviewers, institutions, and academic societies in promoting rigorous research
- lessons from replication projects or reproducibility initiatives
- field-specific challenges in maintaining research integrity
- interdisciplinary approaches to improving the credibility of empirical research
We welcome original articles, including opinion-oriented papers, methodological discussions, empirical analyses, reviews, and other contributions that are clearly aligned with the aims of the special issue. Papers that draw on concrete examples from the author’s own field, research experience, institutional practice, or editorial experience are especially encouraged.
All submissions will undergo the journal’s regular peer-review process. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the submission guidelines of the Journal of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Economics and submitted through the journal’s online submission system.
Accepted papers will first be published online. Once the accepted papers for the special issue have been published online, they will be brought together as a special issue volume.
Researchers from neuroscience, psychology, economics, behavioral science, cognitive science, statistics, philosophy of science, and related disciplines are warmly encouraged to submit their work. We hope that this special issue will serve as a forum for constructive interdisciplinary discussion on how the scientific community can better promote rigorous, transparent, and reliable research.
Manuscripts should be submitted by September 30, 2026.
