Authors may construct the data transparency information for manuscripts submitted to Psychology and Aging as narrative statements and/or in table format. Please include the statement and/or table in both the cover letter and upload as a Data Transparency Statement/Table item. Below are examples of how to do so.

The first narrative example is for multiple uses of data collected from the same sample, and the second narrative example is for a publicly available dataset. The table example is applicable to both types of data sources, as noted below.

These are merely examples—authors should edit these according to their specific data circumstances.

When providing information in tables and/or narratives, address any paper(s) previously published, in press, or currently under review, as well as any paper(s) that foreseeably will be under review before an editorial decision is made on the current submitted manuscript (i.e., is soon to be submitted).

Use as many columns as is necessary. Provide any additional information necessary to clarify the unique contribution of each manuscript. Please be sure to name your variables.

To keep the manuscript in compliance with the masked review policies, please do not add any information in the manuscript that includes author, journal title, or other bibliographic information. However, please be sure to name your variables (e.g., subjective age, aging satisfaction). Identifying information such as author and journal names can be shared with the editorial team in the cover letter.

Multiple uses of data collected from the same sample

The data reported in this manuscript have been previously published and/or were collected as part of a larger data collection (at one or more points in time). Findings from the data collection have been reported in separate manuscripts. MS 1 (published) focuses on variables 1, 2, and 3; while MS 2 (in press) focuses on variables 4, 5, and 6. MS 3 (the current manuscript) focuses on variables 8, 9, and 15. MS 4 (soon to be submitted) will focus on variables 10, 12, and 14. The table below displays where each data variable appears in each study, as well as the current status of each study.

Publicly available dataset

The data reported in this manuscript were obtained from publicly available data, [name of project, along with website link to project description]. A bibliography of journal articles, working papers, conference presentations, and dissertations using the [name of project] is available at [website link to bibliography list]. The variables and relationships examined in the present article have not been examined in any previous or current articles, or to the best of our knowledge in any papers that will be under review soon. [Alternatively, clarify any overlap of variables, as done in the narrative example, and the table example].

Example of Data Transparency Table

Please include in cover letter and upload as a Data Transparency Statement/Table item.

Please note the status of each manuscript connected to the data collection:

  • under review
  • in press
  • published
  • current ms
  • planned
  • (anything else)
