This special issue of Psychomusicology: Music, Mind, & Brain is dedicated to Dr. Leo Beranek not only in acclaim of his 100th birthday in 2014 but also in recognition of his lifelong contributions to the field of architectural acoustics.
The editors have arranged the papers along a line of argument following a "communication chain," beginning with the composition and performance of music, then the physics of concert hall acoustics and the application of acoustic science in concert hall design, and ending with the listener's experience of acoustic quality.
This structure best shows how Dr. Beranek's achievements have triggered both new ideas and the conduct of scientific research.
