Psychology & Neuroscience publishes articles encompassing all intersection areas between psychology and neurosciences. The journal is published quarterly, online only, in English.

The journal is organized into five thematic sections:

  • Psychophysics and Perception. This section focuses on studies on sensory processes, perception, attention, and psychophysics. Descriptions of methods, techniques, and instrumentation in the field are encouraged.
  • Behavior/Systems/Cognition. This section focuses on advances in general fields relating to learning, memory, emotion, cognition, and other psychological systems, with an emphasis on behavioral perspectives. Manuscripts within the fields of linguistics, artificial intelligence, philosophy, and anthropology are also considered.
  • Plasticity and Neural Development. This section focuses on studies that pertain to the neural mechanisms that underlie adaptability, development, and plasticity, especially those that evaluate the bidirectional relationships between brain and behavior.
  • Neuropsychopharmacology. This section focuses on clinical, preclinical, and basic pharmacological studies in humans and animals that address the physiological, molecular, and behavioral properties of psychotropic agents. The studies primarily test pharmacological agents as research tools to investigate psychological processes. The evaluation of neurobiological bases is encouraged.
  • Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology. This section focuses on studies that include healthy or clinical populations to explore the relationships between neurological/psychiatry disorders and human cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functions. Studies with potential relevance to diagnostic and therapeutic applications are encouraged.

Topics covered by the journal include, but are not limited to:

  • neural basis of sensory processing and perception;
  • new approaches to psychophysics paradigms;
  • computational models of brain processing;
  • basic neuroscience and animal model studies exploring behavioral and cognitive processes;
  • studies from basic to clinical neuroscience investigating plasticity and changes in brain structure;
  • neural development across the age spectrum, from embryology to old age;
  • neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions;
  • neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation across development stages and clinical groups;
  • experimental neuropsychology;
  • EEG and neuroimaging studies;
  • test development and validity;
  • preclinical and clinical psychopharmacology studies; and
  • advances in the development of new psychopharmacological interventions.

In addition to original empirical work, the journal also accepts reviews, with an emphasis on systematic reviews/meta-analysis summarizing findings or narrative reviews providing novel hypothesis and theoretical models. Reviews can have the regular article length, but there is also there is also an article format of mini reviews (maximum word count of 3000 words).

Psychology & Neuroscience is the official publication of Instituto Brasileiro de Neuropsicologia e Comportamento (IBNeC).
