The Canadian Psychological Associationopens in new window (CPA) is committed to promoting excellence and innovation in psychological science, according to the highest standards of scientific inquiry, and disseminating psychological knowledge to its members and the broader community.

In support of this mission, the CPA recognizes the contributions made by authors to its three journals (CP, CJEP, and CJBS) by sponsoring an annual award for the best article published in each journal the previous year. CJEP is published quarterly by the CPA in collaboration with the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science (CSBBCS), who co-sponsor the CJEP award.

Any brief report, empirical article, or review paper published in CP, CJEP, or CJBS in the previous calendar year is eligible for a Best Article Award. The editorial team or appointed individuals of each journal nominate one paper per issue and evaluate them according to each journal’s respective selection processopens in new window. Criteria for selection include: originality and innovation, theoretical contribution, quality of empirical work (if any), clarity of writing and presentation, and expected impact.

Each winner is acknowledged at the CPA’s annual meeting (and, for CJEP, at the CSBBCS annual meeting), and receives a certificate and check for the award amount. The articles are also free to read during the award year.
