The Journal of Rural Mental Health® is the official journal of the National Association for Rural Mental Health, and is published by APA’s journals program.
Journal of Rural Mental Health publishes peer-reviewed articles on rural mental health research, practice, and policy within the United States and internationally.
Focused on issues of special interest to those living and working in rural areas, the journal welcomes research on such topics as barriers to improving or accessing care in rural environments, issues faced by underserved populations, and disparities in mental health care.
Discussion of policy implications, community-level issues, and multidisciplinary considerations is encouraged, as is exploration of evidence-based practices, cultural factors, and ethical and regulatory considerations.
Periodically, special theme sections or entire issues are developed that address topics of significant interest to residents of rural communities and those who serve them. Recent topics have included suicide, the use of technology, and substance misuse.
Submissions may take a number of forms, including brief and full-length reports of original research, theoretical or review articles, program descriptions, and letters to the editor.
All manuscripts should include discussion of diversity considerations and be written for a multidisciplinary audience that includes scholars, front-line practitioners, and policy makers.
Journal of Rural Mental Health authors benefit from exceptional support, knowledge, and resources, and enjoy a worldwide exposure: All articles published in the Journal are included in APA PsycInfo® and APA PsycArticles®, the most comprehensive and widely used psychological databases in the world.
Through print and electronic access, articles published in Journal of Rural Mental Health are available to a global audience of over 3,000 institutions and 80 million potential readers.
