Washington — APA’s publishing arm has entered an agreement with the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood (SSEA) to launch a new journal, Applied Studies in Emerging Adulthood. SSEA is undertaking an editor search, with the goal for the journal to begin accepting submissions in summer 2026 and publish its first volume in 2027.
“APA Journals is pleased to be selected as SSEA’s publishing partner,” said Rose Sokol, PhD, APA publisher, journals and books. “The field of emerging adulthood is growing rapidly, and there is a gap in a dedicated publishing outlet for applied research and practice.”
Applied Studies in Emerging Adulthood will emphasize the application of research findings to enhance the lives of emerging adults (ages 18 to 29). The journal will seek submissions that translate theoretical insights on emerging adulthood into practical strategies and real-world applications. This will be SSEA’s second journal, following Emerging Adulthood.
“Just over 20 years after it first began, the field of emerging adulthood is thriving worldwide. We are excited to partner with APA to launch this new journal as the much-needed resource for practitioners, researchers, policymakers and educators working directly with emerging adults,” said Carolyn McNamara Barry, PhD, president of SSEA.
