Dan Morrow, Editor

In an effort to increase the scientific expertise of junior researchers, Phillip Ackerman developed a student review program for the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied® during his tenure as editor. I am updating the program slightly.

The program works as follows:

  • Reviewers may identify a senior graduate student or postdoctoral researcher to participate in the program.
  • The student must be approved by the editor and logged into the Editorial Manager system (we will need the student’s full name and e-mail address).
  • The reviewer and the student each prepare separate reviews (however, as part of the learning process, the mentor and student may discuss the paper and their views on it).
  • The student review is identified as a student review and, as appropriate, provided with the other reviews to the corresponding author.
  • The student reviewer receives a copy of the decision letter as well as the other reviews; that is, the student reviewer is treated like any other reviewer.
  • Student reviewers will be acknowledged at the end of the year along with the other ad hoc reviewers.
