APA guideline and policy statement development
Members of CPTA continued to monitor and participate in activities related to the revision of the 2014 edition of the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing (the Standards) to include:
Responding separately to the APA-sponsored Standards Call for Comments and the Standards Management Committee request for input on the 2014 document.
This activity was a significant opportunity for CPTA to proactively address the issues outlined in the APA Racism Resolution related to past testing-related harms. One of the primary areas identified for revision by the Standards Management Committee is fuller coverage of social justice issues and discussion of the ramifications of consequential validity. Additionally, these activities support the following APA strategic goals:
Utilize psychology to make a positive impact on critical societal issues.
Prepare the discipline and profession of psychology for the future.
Elevate the public’s understanding of, regard for, and use of psychology.
Strengthen APA’s standing as an authoritative voice for psychology.
Educational/informational initiatives
Members of CPTA continued participation in several educational and informational activities to include:
Serving as a formal advisory group to the Presidential Task Force on Neuropsychological Test Norming in Diverse Populations. Activities included a review of the task force's draft recommendations on position statements of aligned groups and a draft research agenda proposal.
Participating in joint programming at the 2023 APA convention with Division 5 (Quantitative and Qualitative Methods) for a symposium focused on incorporating EDI perspectives into quantitative methodology.
Participating as a liaison group to the Board of Professional Affairs (BPA) sponsored Masters’ Title and Scope in Health Service Psychology (HSP) Working Group.
These activities support the following APA strategic goals:
Utilize psychology to make a positive impact on critical societal issues.
Prepare the discipline and profession of psychology for the future.
Elevate the public’s understanding of, regard for, and use of psychology.
Strengthen APA’s standing as an authoritative voice for psychology.
Continued collaborations
As a member group, CPTA continued participation in the activities of:
The Coalition for Psychology in Schools and Education (CPSE)
The International Test Commission (ITC)
The Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation (JCSEE) continued the revision of two JCSEE publications, the Personnel Evaluation Standards (in Education) and the Program Evaluation Standards.
