Eligibility
  • The competition is open to APAGS members enrolled in a graduate program in psychology or related field and in good academic standing at the time of submission.

  • “Psychology and ethics” are defined broadly, to include any empirical or theoretical paper that examines psychology and ethics in relation to science, research, practice, education, public interest, or theory of ethics. Papers must reference and be relevant to the APA Ethics Code.
  • The author must indicate why the particular focus of the paper is worthy of attention.

  • Submissions must be written in APA Style and may not exceed 25 double-spaced pages (including tables and references).

  • If AI tools were used in preparing the paper, the author must appropriately cite its use.

  • Submissions must include an abstract.

  • Submissions may not have been previously published or submitted for publication.

  • It is expected that authors will receive assistance from faculty advisors and professors. Such assistance may not be sufficiently extensive for the faculty member to merit authorship on the paper. Faculty may not be included as authors, but their contribution may be acknowledged in the author’s note. The student author(s) must be able to claim sole authorship.

  • Jointly authored student papers are acceptable. In the case of a jointly authored paper, all students must meet the eligibility requirements and only one prize will be awarded.

  • Papers will be judged based upon quality and originality of ideas, clarity of analysis, and expression and adequacy of literature review.
