How long have you been a member?

I have been a member of Division 37 since 2006. I have always had a strong interest in policy and was inspired by the many psychologists in our division who were able to turn their research into digestible bits and help to shape policy. Our division nickname is “Tiny but Mighty” and I think that is very fitting!

How did you become a division volunteer or leader?

I started to get more involved in Division 37 when I joined the ECP committee in 2015. I really enjoyed connecting with other early career psychologists who were passionate about policies focused on children and families. I then ran for the ECP Member-at-Large in 2017 to be able to continue our momentum in building our programming and articles for ECPs. In 2023, I ran for Secretary, and I am currently running for President. Division 37 has truly become my divisional “home”, and I feel so fortunate to work with such smart, committed colleagues

Who inspires you?

The youth I work with inspire me. When transgender and gender expansive youth are able to live in their authentic identities, they thrive. I love to learn about how they experience gender joy and learn how we can support them in an increasingly hostile environment.

What issues do you think will be front and center for psychologists in the coming year(s)?

I think we are currently experiencing a time when disinformation is rampant and the general public is distrustful of science. We see these issues impacting policies from healthcare, to education and the broader environment. I think psychologists will have to think of novel ways to connect with the general public about the importance of research and share their findings in both traditional and novel ways to combat the noise.

What is your favorite place to travel to? What is next on our travel list?

I have fallen in love with Costa Rica. The varied landscape, the Pura Vida lifestyle, the commitment to environmental justice and equality. Next up, Iceland!

If you weren’t a psychologist, what would you be?

My back up plan has always been to be a back-up dancer! If that didn’t work out, I would lead yoga retreats around the world.
