Here’s where to start when creating a division membership strategy:
- Take inventory: What do you already do to create awareness, recruitment, new member orientation, engagement, and renewals?
- Use what you already have: What benefits do you currently offer? List them out and note why they are valuable, and to what membership types. See how you could communicate those benefits in new ways.
- Look at the data: How many members do you have in each category? How does this compare to last year? Do you have more attrition in any one membership type? Are you keeping the new members that are joining? Are you gaining enough new members to offset resignations?
- Identify low hanging fruit: Decide on where you want to put your efforts and resources. What will give you the most bang for your buck? Where do you have gaps? What membership types need more attention? Starting with one effort at a time is more effective than trying to tackle too much at once.
- Decide on goals: Set your goals and timeline. Keep goals attainable and track your efforts.
