We’re pleased to announce that APA has two new mental health primers designed to support educators in responding effectively to students who may need support:
- Students Experiencing Anxiety: A practical primer to help teachers better understand signs of anxiety in the classroom and provide emotional support.
- Students Experiencing Self Injurious Thoughts and Behaviors (SITBs): A guide to recognizing, understanding, and responding to self-injury or suicidal-related behaviors among students.
The primers offer educators clear, research-informed guidance to recognize early signs of anxiety or self-injurious behaviors in students. Because teachers are often the first adults to notice changes in behavior, these accessible tools can help them respond with confidence and care, identify concerns early, and connect students with appropriate support, without expecting them to serve as mental-health clinicians.
An audio version of these primers, and all the mental health primers in this series, are available on the Mental Health Primers webpage.
