Overview for instructors
What follows below are five different resources for instructors. Each one is summarized below.
- Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for Introductory Psychology (PDF, 40KB)opens in new window
Instructors are encouraged to incorporate them into your syllabus. - Course Design Suggestion to use Integrative Themes (PDF, 58KB)opens in new window
This section provides explicit examples of how to address seven integrative themes over the course of your term. We present instructional tips and assessment items. - Implementing Transformative Skills Assignment (DOC, 43KB)opens in new window
This self-contained assignment provides an explicit way to address one of the new SLOs, which includes an integrative theme. - Integrative Themes Assignment (PDF, 63KB)opens in new window
This assignment is designed to help students identify concepts and ideas that illustrate the integrative themes across the course. We provide the ready-to-use document and an assessment rubric for immediate inclusion. - Lesson Plan: Improving Study Skills through Psychological Science (PDF, 39KB)opens in new window
This detailed lesson on study skills lays out all the information you need (lecture notes, presentation slides, references, links) to deeply convey the utility of evidence-informed study strategies to students.
Please note: We recommend that instructors consider choosing course content using the “Pillar Model” developed by the Strengthening Introductory Psychology working group (PDF, 221KB)opens in new window (APA, 2014; Gurung, et al., 2016). Accordingly, instructors are encouraged to address at least two topics/chapters per pillar and incorporate a set of integrative themes into the teaching of the introductory psychology course.
