Description
“Beyond the Fog” builds on “Clearing the Fog: Rethinking Hormones, Psychotropics and Identity in the Menopause Transition” by moving from broad overview to advanced clinical formulation. Using complex cases, the program examines how clinicians can differentiate menopause-related symptoms from co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions and make thoughtful treatment decisions. Rather than treating menopause as a single explanatory diagnosis, the program considers it as one factor within a multidetermined clinical picture—sometimes central, often intensifying existing vulnerabilities, and best understood in relation to the patient’s body, identity, relationships, and broader life context.
Learning objectives
- Differentiate menopause-related symptoms from co-occurring psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial contributors in complex midlife presentations.
- Apply a multidimensional clinical formulation that considers menopause as a causal, amplifying, or contextual influence on mood, cognition, sleep, and functioning.
- Integrate diagnostic findings with treatment planning that addresses biological factors alongside body image, identity, relationships, and broader life context.
