Psychological science is fundamental to alleviating the climate crisis. The Global Psychology Alliance has affirmed and reaffirmed its commitment to elevating psychology to make meaningful changes at the 2019 and 2022 International Summits on Psychology and Global Health. Organized psychology is taking action at the national, regional, and international levels to advocate for the inclusion of psychological science into decision-making and policy processes. Fundamental changes in our behavior, our attitudes and values are required if we are to avoid catastrophic future scenarios, and psychologists are uniquely positioned to inform and to help change these behaviors and attitudes. This volume, titled Climate Action and Global Psychology is a combination of theoretical and empirical work, varying according to section and topic. Leadership models related to major global crises like climate tend to be more theoretical, while chapters on projects in specific countries are more empirically oriented.
As Canada’s professor Robert Gifford has stated:
"Climate Change is… the result of 7.6 billion people making decisions every single day. That right there makes it a psychological problem."
