The APA MOU Partner Collaboration and Exchange Program fostered long term connections and working relationships between APA members and international colleagues. This grant sent selected scholars to partner associations’ annual conventions where the host organization facilitated meetings, presentations, social events and cultural activities. Countries visited included Colombia, Mexico, South Africa, Ireland, Portugal, England, and Germany.
APA MOU Grant recipients were expected to present at the meeting and participate in all program-related activities, including orientation and in-country meetings and events. Participants were also expected to sustain engagement with their international colleagues through research, presentations, teaching/student exchanges (in person or via Skype), etc. Limited funding was available to support development of long-term initiatives for up to three years post-travel.
In 2020, in collaboration with its MOU partners, APA introduced the PsychSolutions competition, highlighting innovative, science-based initiatives that address the burden of suffering caused by mental health challenges around the world.
This was an invigorating experience that connected me with people from my own nation and from Ireland. I hope to continue working with these scholars and inspiring others in my field to engage in similar work in the future.
