In October, Furman University celebrated the tremendous contribution of Charles Brewer, PhD, who taught psychology at the university 47 years and retired in May. Brewer is a well-known expert on undergraduate education in psychology, edited the journal Teaching of Psychology for 12 years and is the namesake for the American Psychological Foundation's lifetime teaching award.
Eleanor Feldman Barbera, PhD,is the winner of a 2014 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the Blog Content category for her McKnight's Long-Term Care News column, "The World According to Dr. El." The column, and her award-winning website, My Better Nursing Home, focus on bringing psychological insights to those working in long-term care.
Rhode Island College has named Joan Rollins, PhD, a professor emerita of psychology. Rollins retired in June after teaching at the college for 48 years. She also served as president of the Rhode Island Psychological Association in 1989 and of the New England Psychological Association in 2002.
The Chicago School of Professional Psychology has named Azara Santiago-Rivera, PhD, as dean of academic affairs of its Chicago campus. Santiago-Rivera has served as dean of the school's Washington, D.C., campus for three years. Before then, she taught at the University at Albany and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Santiago-Rivera is the founding editor of APA's Journal of Latina/o Psychology and served as president of the National Latino/a Psychological Association from 2004–06.
