Students: Fund your clinical child or adolescent research

Div. 53 (Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology) seeks nominations for four $2,500 Routh Research and Dissertation Grants, which support outstanding student research in clinical child and adolescent psychology.

Applicants must be student members of the division, be enrolled in an APA-approved program, and have a dissertation project that has been approved by their advisor and their program faculty. All applications must be submitted electronically with the subject heading "Routh Research and Dissertation Grant." Nominate one of your colleagues

Div. 1 (Society for General Psychology) seeks nominations for its 2016 awards and distinguished lecture:

  • The Arthur W. Staats Lecture for Unifying Psychology is a talk to be presented at APA's 2017 Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., by a psychologist who has made outstanding contributions toward integrating the diverse subfields within psychology. The winner receives a certificate, a medal and $1,000 at the presentation. The award is sponsored by the American Psychological Foundation and coordinated by Div. 1.
  • The Anne Anastasi General Psychology Graduate Student Award recognizes two outstanding students — one in the first two years of graduate work and one who has completed two years of graduate work. Nominees must submit a vitae and research plan, plus a supporting letter from the student's advisor. Each winner receives $300.
  • The William James Book Award honors a recent book that brings together diverse subfields of psychology and related disciplines.
  • The Ernest R. Hilgard Award for a Career Contribution to General Psychology recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the Div. 1 ideals and mission.
  • The George A. Miller Award for an Outstanding Recent Article in General Psychology recognizes a recent paper that contributes to the division's ideals and mission.

Winners of the James, Hilgard and Miller awards will give an invited address at the 2017 Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., Aug. 3–6, and receive a certificate, a medal and $1,500. Nominations and supporting materials are due Feb. 15. Self-nominations are welcome.

Recognize a brilliant teacher

Div. 2 (Society for the Teaching of Psychology) seeks applications for fellow status and for two of its annual awards:

  • The STP Teaching Excellence Awards honor outstanding teaching performance in six categories: four-year college or university (Robert S. Daniel Teaching Excellence Award); two-year college (Wayne Weiten Teaching Excellence Award); high school (Mary Margaret Moffett Memorial Teaching Excellence Award); first seven years of full-time teaching at any level (Jane S. Halonen Teaching Excellence Award); graduate student (Wilbert J. McKeachie Teaching Excellence Award); and the Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award.   • The Instructional Research Awards support research on the teaching of psychology that can be used as a resource for the division's Office of Teaching Resources in Psychology. Join Div. 15 for free

Div. 15 (Educational Psychology) is offering free membership for all first-time enrollees. Membership includes a digital subscription to the journal Educational Psychologist, a subscription to Div. 15's Newsletter for Educational Psychologists and a weekly email digest of educational psychology news.

Explore psychoanalysis as a Div. 39 scholar

Div. 39 (Psychoanalysis) is accepting applications for its Scholars Program, which introduces graduate students and early career psychologists to the division. Selected scholars receive a $500 travel grant to attend the division's annual spring meeting, "Hot and Bothered: Coming Together without Falling Apart," April 6–10 in Atlanta. Scholars also receive the division's newsletter, journal and other publications at no cost. Scholars are also matched with a mentor they meet with once per month. The application deadline is Jan. 19.

Nominate a sport psychology fellow

Div. 47 — which has recently changed its name to the Society for Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology — seeks nominations for fellow status from division members who have:

  • Maintained three years of continuous membership in the division.
  • Made significant contributions to the field of sport and exercise psychology.
  • Been actively involved with the division, such as attending and presenting at APA's Annual Convention, serving on division committees or on the executive board.
