Recognizing the interdisciplinary nature of today’s technology, in April APA gathered psychologists, computer scientists, roboticists, neuroscientists, clinicians, education scientists and others in Washington, D.C., to share their findings and discuss the future of technology at the association’s Technology, Mind and Society (TMS) Conference.
Along with new products and ideas, ethical issues were on the table, such as the need to protect user privacy, to keep technology from creating undue stress and distraction, and to esure that technology is multiculturally sensitive. “Like any tool, technology can be used or misused, so you have to be smart about it,” says Tara Behrend, PhD, director of the WAVE (Workplaces and Virtual Environments) lab at The George Washington University.
