Dear Members of APA’s Practice Community,
I am very pleased to report CareDash’s website is no longer active as of February 1, 2023, and NuFit Media, Inc. (doing business as CareDash) has discontinued its business. This is not only a major victory in protecting psychologists’ reputations and livelihood, but a successful example of how intensive and collective advocacy with our members can truly spur positive change. On August 4, 2022, APA Services, Inc. (“APASI”; APA’s companion organization focused on serving all members and advocating for psychology) wrote to the CEO of CareDash demanding the company immediately stop listing psychologists’ names on the CareDash platform without their permission.
At the time of our letter, CareDash was encouraging prospective patients to obtain online scheduling through unauthorized profiles of psychologists and other licensed practitioners. Patients were instead redirected to online therapy platforms or other networks of competing providers. The website falsely identified some psychologists’ specialties and inappropriately used psychologists’ reputations to drive business to itself and its partners.
APASI will not stand by while psychologists’ professional reputations are being exploited. We immediately went to work to combat this egregious corporate behavior.
Following APASI’s cease and desist letter and nearly five months of robust negotiations between CareDash and our Office of General Counsel, CareDash has dismantled its website and will dissolve its business. This is an outstanding outcome — both for our profession and for the safety of the public.
APASI’s advocacy team is working with several members of the U.S. Senateopens in new window to further look into these ghost networks. We will continue to protect the reputations of our members and advocate for the safety of public consumers.
APASI will continue advocating on your behalf, to protect both psychologists and consumers. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact APASI’s Chief of Professional Practice, Dr. Jared Skillings.
Sincerely,
Arthur C. Evans, Jr., PhD
