WASHINGTON — De Gruyter Mouton and the American Psychological Association have partnered to publish "Bilingualism Across the Lifespan," the first volume in the series Language and the Human Lifespan.

"Bilingualism Across the Lifespan," edited by Elena Nicoladis and Simona Montanari, presents the study of bilingualism across the lifespan and in all its diverse forms. In framing the newest research within a lifespan perspective, Nicoladis and Montanari highlight the importance of considering an individual’s age — from infancy to late adulthood — when researching how bilingualism affects language acquisition and cognitive development.

The volumes in this series will feature the best contemporary research on topics where psychology and language intersect. The series will be essential for all who work in or are interested in the porous disciplinary boundaries of psychology and linguistics. Three more volumes will be published in 2016.

"APA is excited to partner with De Gruyter Mouton on this innovative series that will greatly enhance global understanding of language, psychology and lifespan development," according to Jasper Simons, APA’s executive publisher.

“The prestige and reach of the APA and De Gruyter Mouton publishing programs represent an ideal combination of leading-edge scholarship,” said Anke Beck, PhD, managing director of De Gruyter, which is based in Berlin. “Authors and editors will benefit from the combined long-term editorial expertise, high-quality production procedures, state of-the-art electronic publishing strategies, and strong sales and marketing infrastructure that De Gruyter Mouton offers.”
