Jessica Henderson Daniel, PhD Jessica Henderson Daniel, PhD, is the 2017 APA president-elect and will be the first African-American woman to serve as president of the American Psychological Association.

Jessica Henderson Daniel, PhD, ABPP, is an associate professor of psychology in Harvard Medical Center's department of psychiatry. She also serves as the associate director of the Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) training program at the Boston Children's Hospital's Division of Adolescent Medicine.

Daniel has earned fellow status in six APA divisions and is also the first African-American elected to an at-large seat of the APA Board of Directors. She has served as the president of the Society for the Psychology of Women (Div. 35), and has also held positions as a member of the Committee for the Advancement of Professional Practice, the Council of Representatives, the Ethics Code Task Force, the APA Finance Committee, the Early Career Psychologist Task Force, and chaired the APA Centering on Mentoring Task Force.

Throughout her career, Daniel has served as a passionate advocate and mentor for students of color in the field of psychology. She has organized mentorship programs and promoted the research of psychologists of color through initiatives like Next Generation which highlight the intellectual and academic work of black female researchers, providing representation and networking opportunities for rising psychologists. She has been committed to envisioning and building space for marginalizes voices in the field of psychology.

Daniel is the 2017 APA President-Elect and will be the first African-American woman to serve as president of the American Psychological Association.
