Featured Psychologist
Y. Joel Wong is a tenured associate professor in the counseling/counselor education and counseling psychology programs in Indiana University Bloomington. His research interests center on Asian and Asian-American mental health, the psychology of men and masculinities and positive psychology. Wong has taught courses in counseling theories, advanced counseling theories, positive psychology, multiracial counseling, social psychology and Asian-American psychology. He is the director of the Gender, Culture and Positive Psychology Lab at Indiana University where his research addresses the psychology of men and masculinities, Asian/Asian-American mental health (specifically suicide prevention) and positive psychology. Wong is an affiliated faculty member of the Asian American Studies Program, the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society and the department of gender studies at Indiana University.
Additionally, Wong serves as the co-editor in chief of the "APA Handbook of Men and Masculinities". He is an APA fellow in Divs. 17, 45 and 51 and a Fellow of the Asian American Psychological Association. Wong is the associate editor of the Journal of Counseling Psychology and the Psychology of Men and Masculinity. He has also worked as the communications officer of the prevention section in Div. 17 (Counseling Psychology) and as a board member of Division 51 (Men and Masculinity).
Wong has authored or co-authored over 99 scholarly publications and in-press papers, which have collectively been cited over 1700 times. He recently developed a psychoeducation group program in order to examine the psychology of gratitude and encouragement, and the role they have in psychological interventions.
