Overview

At a moment of unprecedented visibility alongside renewed political backlash, understanding the research on LGBTQ+ families has never been more important.

This book presents current research on LGBTQ+ parenting and families, illuminating the tension between growing social recognition and persistent legal, political, and social marginalization. It examines pathways to parenthood, family dynamics, parent and child well-being, and children's educational and community contexts, offering practical implications for practitioners, scholars, policymakers, and advocates. Situated within the landmark gains of marriage equality and the mounting pressures of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation, the book supplies rigorous research as an indispensable tool for validation, education, and the dismantling of harmful myths, while also highlighting how experiences of marginalization are shaped by race, class, gender identity, and geography.
